Coming soon but not soon enough for us here at Whitefish Bay Camp on Lake of the Woods. All it takes to get us going is to start on the Sport Show Circuit.

Hard to believe that it is Sport Show time again!! Whitefish Bay Camp on Lake of the Woods near Sioux Narrows/Nestor Falls in Ontario, Canada is packing up the show booth and checking our lists to decide what we REALLY need to take for our eight week tour.
Our first show for the 2011 season is the St. Louis All-Canada Show which opens on Friday, Jan 7 at the St. Charles Convention Center. The complete list of our show curcuit is on our website http://www.whitefishbaycamp.com you will also find our booth number for each show. Some of the shows have new venues and those booth numbers seem not to be available as yet.....as soon as we get them we will post them.
While we are not looking forward to living out of a suitcase for the duration of the tour we are exciting about seeing everyone at the shows. It is a great time for us to visit with other tourism business owners that we rarely see during the season as well to visit with our returning guests (thank you), new guests (welcome) and potential guests.
By the end of the tour we are all excited to get up to camp to open up and begin the open water fishing season. When we get home we have to wait for the ice on the lake to melt before we can move out to the island.
Much of our driving time...we cover something over 5000 miles....is spent talking about projects we would like to see get done, deciding which ones are at the top of the list and making our shopping lists so we have what we need lined up before we get to camp.
With the amount of snow we have this year we should have decent water levels...so much will depend on the thickness of the ice as to when break-up will come. If the winds come and blow the snow off the lake and the temperatures drop as they often do in January and February the ice can get very thick. Whitefish Bay is clear water so is slow to let loose! We look at early in May as the average move to the island time. Early Lake Trout fishing just so much fun....because they are in the shallower waters we can catch alot more than we can keep.......Fresh Lake Trout for dinner....Yummy!! Of course the big Northern Pike are in the shallow waters too which is SOOOOO much of a thrill, the Walleye, Bass and Crappie are busy doing their thing too...could it be that is my favorite time to fish?? Maybe, but then I remember the warm days out on the lake and I could say that is my favorite time....then we have September....I'll let you know what I decide when I have done my research!
Time to get back to work getting ready to leave on Tuesday.
Happy New Year to you all and we hope you will come see us at whatever Sport Show we are at in your area.

Whitefish Bay Camp is up and running! Bob and Peg got to camp on April 26 and of course the rain started the next day. We are complaining in soft tones though as the water level on Lake of the Woods is very very low. We really struggled to get the fuel barge floating as it was high and dry where we had moored it for the winter season.

This is the time of year that people are getting their groups and/or families organized for their Fishing and Hunting trip for the upcoming season. The businesses that welcome you also start their planning. Whitefish Bay Camp is certainly among them. We have numerous lists getting longer by the day of projects that we want done and shopping lists for items we will need to work on those projects. We have a good start on our reservation book and have sent out our yearly Newsletter to our past guests. We have already gotten our sport show booth out and set up to see what needs doing in order to present an orderly place for people to come to gather information .

So many of our returning guests talk so fondly with us about their memories of trips with their parents, family members and friends made in the past, the scrapbooks, picture albums, movies and videos of the good times. Many of them are now bringing their own families and friends back to find the magic of Lake of the Woods in Ontario, Canada.

Whitefish Bay Camp is already preparing for the 2010 season. Finding a good place to spend your vacation time can be a time consuming thing to do. We think that the first thing to do is decide what type of place you are looking for ie: do you want to just flake out and totally relax or do you want entertainment, do you want to be in charge of your schedule or do you want someone else to plan out your whole stay for you? Maybe something in-between works for you. Not everyone likes the step back in time sort of location and really do need/want a casino, night club nearby that provide band music and lots of people. No right and wrong way to go just be sure to decide what you want for your time away! Right here is a good place to decide what your budget is and how to get the best bang for your buck!

Whitefish Bay Camp has closed another season on Lake of the Woods. Now, where in the world did that go? It always seems to stretch out with such exciting promises when we go in to open up in the Spring. This year was no exception!! The promise was fulfilled. But we do have to say that it was a very strange year. Cool, wet and windy just about says it all. I think we had about three weeks of Summer weather and that came in September! The really weird thing was that the fishing was terrific! That really was a pleasant surprise as the temperature of the water, at least in Whitefish Bay, never really warmed up to the levels we are use to seeing.
